What is ArtRandom?

  • ArtRandom is an educational program offered to create visual literacy and stimulate creative thinking

  • Our primary goal is to give children a new lens through which to see art

  • We want children to understand that art is for people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, races, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds

  • We also want children to see that art transcends boundaries – it can start conversations, provoke thought, cause people to think or feel, or both

  • We seek to achieve these goals by presenting three images - visual triptychs - to the students (“Random Views”):

1. The first image is a traditional piece of art - a painting or sculpture one might find in a museum;

2. The second image is of an alternative form of art, something that a visual or performance artist has created using a similar concept, or motif; a sort of visual or thematic “riff” on the original;

3. The third image can be anything that might cause one to think of one or both of the first two boards: something in a store window or in a playground; something in a street; a tree; a cloud; a piece of candy; a toy. Anything goes. After seeing a few boards, children will start using their own imaginations to fill in their own third images.
